About The Pattern, In The Designer's Words

Cozy, warm, and exploding with color - the Bonfire Shawl is perfect for when the temperature drops. Pick three coordinating skeins for the body and a fourth for the edging, and create something cozy and cheerful. It’s the perfect way to combat the chill in the air!

The pattern uses only basic stitches but has an unusual construction, for a project that’s ideal for an adventurous beginner. It’s easily adjustable and includes detailed notes for customizing the size, shape, and colors.

The Bonfire Shawl includes both a fully written and charted version of the pattern.

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors

The pattern calls for 924yds/844m/400g DK weight yarn in total - 231yds/211m/100g in each of four coordinating colors. Three skeins are used for the body and a fourth for the edging.

To achieve the look of the sample, use a colorful colorway like a variegated or speckle and two coordinating tonals or solids for the body. The edging can be done in any color that matches all three skein used in the body.

You can also have fun with the colors in the body - use three solids, three variegateds, self-striping, a gradient, or anything else! Work the body in one color, in solid color blocks, or whatever else strikes your fancy! I recommend using a solid or tonal for the edging so the lace is clearly visible.

The pattern includes instructions for working to a percentage of the yardage for the body so you can easily customize the yardage or yarn weight - the pattern works well with anything from a fingering to a worsted. The edging is designed to use approximately 1/4 of the total yardage.
