About The Pattern, In The Designer's Words

Add a little sparkle with the Starlight Shawl! Delicate beads in multiple hues twinkle throughout the edging and the pattern includes notes for adding beads in the body of the shawl, too.

Beads are deceptively easy to add to crochet and the shawl uses only basic stitches like sc, dc, and ch, making it doable by any crocheter that wants to sparkle and shine. Get ready to experience a starlit journey!

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
The pattern calls for 350yds/320m/95g of color A and 420yds/384m/115g of color B. Both the body and the edging can be adjusted to size, so you can work with any yardage for either color. The shawl can also be worked in one color (or more than two). The pattern calls for heavy fingering weight, but can be worked in anything from a laceweight to a worsted weight.

The pattern works well for combining almost any two colors - the more the colors contrast, the more noticeable the contrast stripes in the body will be. Color A is used in the body and can be anything from a solid to a variegated. Color B is used as a contrast through the body and in the edging. I recommend a color without too much variegation so the lace is visible.

Bead Amounts and Colors
The sample features two colors of size 6/0 beads, approximately 18g of each color. Bead size and amounts will vary with any adjustments made - 6/0 is perfect for heavy fingering, but thicker yarns may require a 4/0 or 2/0 bead. More/fewer repeats in the will result in a shawl that requires more/fewer beads to work the edging. The pattern also includes notes for adding extra beads throughout the body and you can add/remove beads from select rows in the edging, too. The pattern calls for two different colors of beads in the edging, but you can work the shawl with one color throughout or as many colors as you wish.

Pick bead colors that coordinate with the yarn - not too much of a contrast, just enough of a color difference to stand out.

The edging is also dramatic enough to work without beads.
