About The Pattern, In The Designer's Words
The Semicolon Shawl is worked in one piece from the top-down. It works with just about any colorway, no matter how variegated. and features an eight row repeat that makes it easy to customize. It’s lacy enough to be wearable even in warmer months or climates and it adds the perfect touch of elegance to any outfit. The pattern uses basic stitches, but is recommended for people who are comfortable reading detailed crochet patterns.
The shawl is named for Project Semicolon, an organization dedicated to providing love, hope, and inspiration to those struggling with mental illness, depression, and suicide.
A semicolon is used when an author could’ve ended a sentence but chose not to. You are the author and the sentence is your life.
The shawl is for everyone who is suffering, but has chosen to continue. Make it for yourself, because you’re worth it, or gift it to someone you love who might need the reminder. The pattern works up quickly, for when you need a last minute gift or pick-me-up. It’s mindless enough so that you can work on it when anxious or stressed, but has enough detail to provide a distraction.
If you or someone you love is struggling, call your local emergency services. In the US, you can dial 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or click here for text chat.
